ONE DAY WITH…

nora

1. What are you currently working on?
I am currently working with some colleagues on a project to extract a core part of our backend system into its own micro service.

2. What was your most exciting project?
I’d say that this one is definitely the most exciting. However all projects have been exciting in different ways so far. I started out in the Core team which was very interesting and where I touched quite a few new technologies. Then I was allocated to the backend team of one of our mobile applications. We work quite closely with the frontend. So my work has reached from investigating bugs, which can be easy to find or very hard to find, to writing test cases, to adding new endpoints and new functionality, to optimizing code, or cleaning up code, to working on something that I deem necessary and which was approved, or even writing a small simple micro service which takes care of generating our PDF printouts, which was great preparation for then working on extracting one of our core parts of our monolithic backend system.
Then there’s also our 10% week in which the developers can work on what they find interesting. There have been some interesting outcomes!

3. Describe the team you are working in with three words.
Supportive, knowledgeable, fun.

4. What is special about your job at eGym?
I’m constantly learning something new and I get to touch a lot of different topics.

5. How would you describe eGym in three words?
Young, dynamic, evolving

6. What is your favorite eGym event?
Favorite reoccurring eGym event is definitely the Oktoberfest. This year however the summer event where we had to build our own summer party, including water slides, was really fun!

1. What are you currently working on?
We are currently working on integrating a new type of voucher for the STUDIOSUCHE.de page. It is a voucher for a discounted monthly training, so the users can visit the gym for a longer period of time, while not paying the full price for a monthly membership. We are adjusting the web page, redesigning key elements and implementing the changes in our backend as well.

2. What was your most exciting project?
Maybe it was one time when most of my colleagues went to the fitness fair (FIBO) and a colleague of mine together with me changed quite a big portion of the backend, so that we can move to a different dependency injection framework. It was not really fancy work, but I enjoyed it, since it involved touching almost every part of our backend and thinking things through. In the end we were quite happy with the results and by the time the rest of our colleagues came back, we were almost completely finished.

3. How would you describe eGym in with three words?

Fitness – your lifestyle

4. What is your favorite time of day and why?

  • I quite enjoy the time around 10am. It’s the time when I drink my coffee and get to eat a Butterbrezel/Brezel. At this time I am still fresh from the night’s rest (well, sometimes anyways ;)) and I can think straight.
  • I also enjoy the evening time, around 19h, when there are no meetings and other distractions. It’s nice and quiet in the office, I find that I am more productive during that time.

5. What is your favorite office place?
The one where you have young and cheerful colleagues, really trying to make a difference in their work. Also I prefer a more quiet working environment, where the distractions are virtually almost non-existent.
